Tweed House offers a specialised reproduction clinic. We offer a fertility evaluation service for dogs and bitches, semen collection, evaluation and semen freezing. Gil has gained specific qualifications in the collection and freezing of canine semen. This involved training in the USA with International Canine Genetics Synbiotics. Tweed House is the only private practice, which deals with canine frozen semen and handles the importation or export of frozen or fresh chilled semen from the UK.

We have collected semen from five dogs that have been best in show at Crufts.

Frozen semen collected at Tweed House has been exported all over the world, including Australia, New Zealand and the USA. Frozen semen allows breeders to access the semen and hence genetic material from the top dogs worldwide. This allows for the breeding of better dogs and also can help to reduce inherited defects by widening the gene pool. Top breeders who think ahead are now having semen from their top dogs frozen so that it can be used either abroad, or stored in this country for use in the future. The Kennel Club will now consider the use of frozen semen from dogs, which are no longer alive providing certain criteria have been met. Permission should be gained from the Kennel Club prior to any mating.

As well as collecting semen to send abroad, we also receive semen and perform Artificial Inseminations on bitches in this country. We have achieved about 70% success with our biggest litter so far being 13 German Wirehaired Pointer puppies. By importing semen you can still use overseas dogs without the need for quarantine or using the Pet Passport Scheme.

We can arrange the export of frozen and chilled semen from the UK and the storage of imported semen for future use.
