Breed: Dogue De Bordeaux
Breed Group: Working (UK), Eligible for miscellaneous class competition only (USA)
Appearance: A large, stocky dog with a short, fine, soft coat and loose fitting skin. Originally bred as a guard dog and to hunt game. Imposing, vigilant and courageous without aggression. Good with children. Requires a moderate amount of exercise and little grooming, although cleanliness around the folds of the skin is essential. An approximate life span of around 9 to 10 years.
Head: A very large, broad head with a dominant forehead. Muzzle powerful and short with well opened nostrils and a black nose.
Eyes: Eyes wide set and oval in shape. Hazel to dark brown in colour for dog with a black mask, lighter colour for dogs with a brown mask or no mask.
Ears: Ears relatively small, and high set. Should fall forward, but not limply.
Mouth: Undershot, with strong teeth.
Neck: A strong, muscular neck.
Forequarters: Extremely well muscled legs with strong, slightly sloping pasterns.
Body: A broad, muscular back, longer in body than height. Chest powerful, broad and deep.
Hindquarters: A broad loin; strong, muscular hind legs with well developed second thigh and low set hocks.
Feet: Feet strong with supple, well developed pads and strong nails.
Tail: Tail very thick and carried low in a curve, but raised when in action.
Gait movement: Free and supple with good extension of the forelegs and good drive from hindquarters.
Coat: Fine, short and soft to the touch. The skin is thick and loose fitting.
Colour: All shades of fawn, from mahogany to Isabella, with or without a mask. Masks can be black or brown according to pigment colour.
Height: from 60 to 68cm (Dogs) 58 to 66cm (Bitches)
Weight: from 50 to 60kg (Dogs) 45 to 55kg (Bitches)
